DIPEx Map View

The DIPEx Web Interface includes a mapping component which is managed using extended assets called map view assets. Map view assets allow a user to specify and save all the information necessary to view a map, including legend, scalebar, geography, output format and the layers to be rendered. Map views provide an easy mechanism to share maps over the Web among groups of users.

Layers are the combination of a data source and a rendering asset, and are stored under a map view in the tree. Any number of folders can be used under a map view to organize layer information. The decoupling of the data source and the renderer allows the storage and management of the data source to be completely separate from the rendering, so a user can use one data source in many layers with different renderings. This is very useful for applications such as scale dependent rendering, outlining and annotation.

The rendering order of layers exactly matches the ordering in the tree, so a user can drag assets such as a layer or a folder full of layers up or down to change rendering order.

To open the map interface, the View Map menu item is enabled when a map view is selected, clicking View Map opens a new map interface window. The map interface window contains a subset or branch of the whole tree starting from the map view, and only displays folder and layer assets, since other assets are not meaningful in the map interface.

Map View with Vectors over Landsat

To generate output maps a publish function is available. The user prepares map by altering map view parameters, and selecteing layers for display and then generates a PNG file to user specified width and height in pixels.
